Madness & Malice
A Kurotsuchi Mayuri themed zine
“Madness and Malice” is an unofficial SFW zine dedicated to Kurotsuchi Mayuri from the series Bleach.
In this project we want to focus on Mayuri’s journey in the series, such as his investigations and creations, battles and relationships, everything caracterized by his peculiar personality that names this zine.
We also are planning to have an “add on” called “Kurotsuchi’s Cabinet of Curiosities” if financial conditions allow us!WHAT IS Kurotsuchi’s Cabinet of Curiosities “add on”?
Basically, the cabinet of curiosities was the name given to a room filled with a collection of notable and peculiar objects, such as relics, antiquities, science volumes, stuffed animals and many other interesting things. It was started on 16th century and it’s the precursor to museums.
Our idea is to have a short add-on, maybe 20 pages more or less, displaying Kurotsuchi’s collection of curiosities, like a catalogue with little comments of his explaying what he has in there (maybe failed experiments, weird things…)
WHAT IS A ZINE?
Also called “fanzine” is a compilation of various creative works such as drawing, writings, comics…etc. That are meant to be published as a booklet.
Zines can have different themes and be created by one or many artists!WHO CAN APPLY?
Everyone that loves Kurotsuchi and would like to contribute as: Cover artist, page artist, spot artist, merch artist, writers or comic artist.IS THIS PROJECT FOR-PROFIT OR FOR-CHARITY?
This project will be for-profit.ARE SHIPS ALLOWED IN THE ZINE? WHAT ABOUT NSFW?
We want to remain close to the original work so there won’t be any ships. Also, this project is SFW so NSFW is not allowed in the zine.IS THIS ZINE GOING TO BE PHYSICAL, DIGITAL OR BOTH?

APPLICATION GUIDELINESGENERAL- First of all we want to encourage you all to apply, we would like to have a great time doing this zine :)- Accesible Portfolio and Sample links. We encourage to use Google Drive for your sample links, but other platforms are good too.- Applicants must be 18+ to apply.- We will ask for 3 samples that show the best of your ability plus your portfolio link. Please, remember that we will also check your portfolio, not only your samples. So we expect that the skill you show in the samples is the same as the portfolio.- Bleach and Kurotsuchi related pieces are NOT mandatory but HIGHLY encouraged.- This is a SFW zine so NSFW should only be in your portfolio and not in your samples.- Spot Artists are required to work with a writer.SPECIFICSPage Artists and Comic Artists- 3 samples of your work.
- We will be choosing the contributors based on their creativity, color, background, basic anatomy knowledge and their use of perspective. Please, choose wisely which pieces represent better your style and skills.
- Contributors will also choose if they want to participate in the add-on “Kurotsuchi’s Cabinet of Curiosities”. Taking in consideration that it will be an additional piece to create apart from the main zine.Merch Artists- 3 samples of your work.
- It can be physical or digital merch. But remember this is a digital zine.
- Pictures of your merch is recommended but it’s absolutely ok if you only have the prototype.Writers- 3 samples of your work.
- For the zine, we require writers to create a piece between 1.5k - 2k words. So a sample that matches that lenght will be recommended but no mandatory.
- We will choose the contributors based on their creativity, proper grammar use, syntax, flow and ability to create and tell a story.
- Contributors will also choose if they want to participate in the add-on “Kurotsuchi’s Cabinet of Curiosities”. Taking in consideration that it will be an additional piece to create apart from the main zine.Cosplay
- 3 samples of your work.
- For the zine we require cosplayers high quality pictures and creativity in their cosplay. We would like to see some examples of this in your portfolio :)
